I'm entering the nursing program as a new student in the 2nd/3rd semester. What do I need to know about the library?

Answer

Welcome to the nursing program! The library has much to offer to help you succeed. There's even a nursing librarian to help you!  Her name is Karla Block and you can reach her in a variety of ways, including our Ask a Librarian page, her profile page, or the library's staff directory.  All of these options will allow you to easily connect with Karla or make an appointment to meet with her. Please don't be shy--she's here to help and loves working with nursing students.

You will also want to take a look at the library's online nursing guide. Some of the features of special interest to newly entering nursing students include the following:

Familiarize yourself with the library's website where you can check our hours, link to free tutoring services, and search for books, articles, and videos. Take a look at our Nursing & Health databases, especially CINAHL, which is the recommended starting point for your nursing research.

You should know that if the library doesn't have what you need, we can often get it for you by borrowing it from another library.  Feel free to ask Karla or the other librarians, Eric and Susanna, if you need help ordering materials.

You should also check out the Library FAQs (there's a specific topic for nursing with a growing list of FAQs) for some self-service resources.

Above all, remember that the library is here to help you succeed.  Please let us know how we can help, and reach out to Karla, who is looking forward to working with you!
