The NURS208 values clarification paper starts with a personal essay, followed by a research paper that includes both sides of the issue and requires the use of a minimum number of current nursing journal articles. Some students know exactly what they want to write about, while others need help brainstorming ideas. Because you'll need to use current nursing journal articles for the research paper, it makes sense to make sure that you'll be able to find enough of the right kinds of sources before you commit to a topic. Some topics may lack enough current articles, or may be well-covered in journals that are not nursing journals. And as always, it's a good idea to run your topic idea past your reader too. 

The NURS208 library guide provides some ideas if you want to browse for possible topics or topic ideas that have been done by other students in past semesters. This page is not exhaustive, but provides a starting point, and includes links to some full text articles, books, and websites that may spark your interest.. 

Some popular topics in recent years have included:

• assisted suicide
• end of life issues
• patient compliance (often, with chronic illness such as diabetes, or psychiatric medications)
• refusal of care for various reasons (such as religious)
• vaccinations
• medical marijuana
