What is CINAHL and how do I access it? Why should I use it?
Answer
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is widely considered to be the premiere database for nursing. You can use CINAHL to search for articles in hundreds of nursing and allied health journals, as well as care plans, protocols, evidence-based care sheets, and even cartoons. You can access the full text of many articles for free using the library's subscription. If the library doesn't have the full text, you can request the article(s) at no charge to you (delivery is generally within a couple of days).
There are several ways you can access CINAHL.
- Direct link to CINAHL or the link attached to this FAQ
- From the Articles page on the library's website (choose Nursing & Health)
- From the Databases A-Z list
Please refer to the library's nursing guide, which includes a tab specific to CINAHL, for more information.
You're encouraged to contact Karla, the nursing librarian, or make an appointment for questions or help.
