What's a permalink and how do I find it?
Answer
A permalink is a URL that should last. In the case of the Library's resources, the permalink will also be secure, prompting current students, faculty and staff to log in first. That way, they will have the required permission to be able to read the article or watch the video. In other words, these links, to streaming videos, ebooks and other online articles and proprietary content can be shared with your students and you will remain in compliance with copyright.
The library's databases have different ways to generate a permalink. Most often, these generators are identified by a chain link icon. When you are on the page for the book, movie, or article, look for that symbol. Click on it and a window will pop up with a URL for you to then copy and paste into a web course, into an email, etc..
In the library's catalog:
In Ebook Central:
In GVRL and other databases from Gale:
In Academic Search Ultimate and other databases from EBSCO:
In Academic Video Online, first click Share, then copy either the permalink (or the embed code).
Be careful! You can almost never simply use the URL that is displayed in your browser's address bar.
