How do I request something from another library? (Interlibrary loan)

Answer

If our library doesn't have the what you need (like a book, DVD, or article), we will try to get it for you from another library. This service is sometimes referred to as interlibrary loan.

First, find a listing for the item you want in our OneSearch.

If it's a book or a DVD, change the drop-down menu at the top of the search to SUNY Libraries and search again.  If you still don't see it, change the drop-down to WorldCat.

If it's an article or a book chapter, search and then use the slider next to Search More Libraries in the left menu under Tweak your results.

Then, under the listing for the item you want, click on either the Check for Available Services link (for a book or DVD) or the No Online Access Link (for an article or chapter).

Then, under How to get it, click Sign in.

Click TC3 Student, Faculty and Staff Login.

Provide your TC3 email address and click Next.

Type in your usual password, the same one that you use for myTC3, and then click Sign in.

Now under How to Get it, the yellow banner will be gone and you'll see the request option. Click Request item.

And then click on Send Request.

You will be notified by email when the item you requested has arrived.

  • Articles and book chapters will be delivered electronically to your email, usually within a few days.
  • Books and DVDs can take a week or more to arrive on our campus.  You could then opt for them to be delivered to you by mail.
You can get help at any step in this process.  And if you don't see what you want, there are other things we can do. Don't give up!  Ask a Librarian.
