Since you are asking about the Gale Virtual Reference Library, you probably already know that it's a collection of reliable, authoritative and academic articles on a broad range of topics.  It's a great resource for background information, topic overviews, biographical information, and historical context.  And, you can click on the built-in Cite button to have a citation created for your Works Cited or References page.

Its name is changing to the more generic Gale Ebooks, so you may see it referenced that way.
