Fact Check - a nonpartisan, nonprofit project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.  Also SciCheck, which focuses on scientific claims.

Media Matters - a nonprofit research center.

Open Secrets - a nonpartisan, independent and nonprofit site run by the Center for Responsive Politics.  Tracks sources and amounts of political candidates' money.

Politifact - run by the Poynter Institute, its website has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize.  Features the Truth-O-Meter.

Snopes - "The definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation."

TinEye - a reverse image search for checking if an image has been altered.

Truth Be Told - "a non-profit, non-partisan website and digital network, run and edited from Howard University’s Department of Media, Journalism and Film in the School of Communications. It ... examin[es] claims about the black community in public debate."
