How do I handle assessment for students who did not participate in all assignments that map to SLOs?

Answer

We also have had some questions about when faculty should or should not include a student as having participated in a specific SLO assessment.

To help, please note the following:

  1. If a student did not do any work on an assessment at all, then do not include them;
  2. if a student did partial work then err on the side of including them;
  3.  when in doubt, include the student in your calculations.

However, please add details about this in the area on the form where you can provide comments.   So please feel free to explain if a noteworthy number of students either didn’t perform the required work or only did it partially.  Those comments will help departments identify trends and talk about strategies to help students and faculty.
