Where can I find images that don't require copyright permission?

Answer

There are a number of resources you could turn to, including:

  • New Old Stock
    • "Vintage photos from the public archives free of known copyright restrictions."
  • Pexels
    • "The best free stock photos, royalty free images & videos shared by creators."
  • Pixabay
    • "All content (e.g. images, videos, music) ... can be used for free ... Attribution is not required.  Giving credit... is always appreciated"
  • Stock Media CC
    • "The images are provided free of charge under a standard creative commons license ... in return for an attribution." Subscribe to the site and download unwatermarked, high resolution jpeg files.
  • Unsplash
    • "Unsplash grants you an irrevocable, nonexclusive, worldwide copyright license to... use photos from Unsplash for free ... without permission from or attributing the photographer or Unsplash."
  • Wikimedia Commons - Category:Images
    • Media files on Wikimedia Commons can be used by anyone, although in most cases you are required to credit the author.

You could also search Google Images.  Click Tools and under Usage Rights select Creative Commons licenses.

Another option is to go to the Internet Archive.  Click on Advanced Search and in Mediatype choose image from the dropdown list.
